Continuing and equally well-advised adventures
[At long last, Vima and Rex have reached the next station. It seems like they've wound up in the countryside--there's lots of vaguely bluish wheat waving around the station, some buildings and shiny silos that look like a town.
It's hard to say if it's closer to Vima's time or Rex's time. Really, it all looks extremely innocuous. If someone went out of their way to build an innocent little farming community, this is probably the kind of picture they would paint.]
Hm... looks like we're in the middle of nowhere. [Vima puts on her train worker's vest again.] But I've got a funny feeling this place isn't as pointless as it looks.

[ Rex looks at the scenery around them. It's all very idyllic. He feels immediately uncomfortable. This isn't the sort of scenario he's at home with - but then again, he's at home with very few scenarios. ]
Well, I've learned to trust Jedi's funny feelings in my time. Let's get to it.
[ He leads, of course. ]

So far it doesn't look like anything more specific than 'crates.' She takes note of some of the station workers unloading it, and the blue-uniformed people who are watching closely...]
Speaking of funny feelings. [She tugs at his elbow a little and looks significantly at the security team.] Let's go around the other way.

If you say so, [ he says agreeably enough, turning on a dime and pushing her forward and away from the security team, hand resting between her shoulderblades. ]
Come on now, [ he says, a little louder, more domineering than is his usual. They'll get away easier if they think he's in charge, not some kid. ]

[Unfortunately, that manages to make the team more interested in them.]
Who are you? Where's your authorization? The cargo area is strictly off-limits!
[Vima wishes she'd picked up a hat to hide her face. Is this not somewhere she'd want to be recognized? But she makes a little gesture, subtly, not raising her hand.]
Sorry. I got turned around. The boss is just setting me straight.
[SHE HAS NEVER TRIED A MIND TRICK BEFORE]

That's right, [ he says, clearing his throat. ] Kids these days - no attention span. We'll be on our way.

[The security guard looks skeptical, but he waves them on--apparently Rex's air of authority has convinced him that they are what they look like.
Vima almost breathes a sigh of relief if it wouldn't be a dead giveaway. But she can't help looking slightly smug and feeling very smug that her first attempt at a Jedi mind trick really worked!]
What do you think you're doing?! You let them--You two! Halt!
[...it worked on ONE guard.]
Blast!
[a prophetic statement, as a blue stun bolt shoots past her ear. Vima grabs Rex to yank him behind some crates as the other guards open fire. So much for that retro aesthetic?!]

On the other hand, Rex's first instinct is to whip out his own blasters and shoot the kriff out of them, because opening fire on someone for being in the wrong place isn't just bad optics, it makes no sense. They deserve whatever they'd get for firing on those they haven't interrogated yet, particularly when he's accompanied by a youngling. A Jedi youngling, perhaps, but a youngling nonetheless. He stays flattened beside her behind the crates, yanking his blasters from out of their holsters and peering over it to see what they're dealing with. ]
Looks like they're hiding something. [ It's none of their business. They need to get out of here and find a way to get home. But Rex has never seen a mystery that he doesn't want to solve, in some way or another. ]
So much for a warning shot.
[ Unless he stops, Rex looks like he's primed to start shooting back, effective immediately. ]

[Vima's hand goes to the lightsaber at her belt, hidden beneath the vest. She swallows. She's trained in lightsaber combat, and even blind to the Force, Ulic had been an excellent teacher. But this is the first time she's ever been in a real combat situation--the first time as a participant, not a scared four-year-old caught up in an ambush. She draws the lightsaber, but she doesn't turn it on just yet.
With that in mind... it's a relief to be standing next to a veteran soldier right now, no matter the ethics that were involved in his becoming one.]
At least they're only trying to stun us, but--[She looks up as another blue bolt zips by overhead.] I really don't want to end today in jail.
[She is sort of trying for breezy but it's not working at all. But there is a pause in the salvo. When Rex takes that peep tere are about four security-uniformed guards standing there, blasters still aimed at the crates. One of them is on some kind of comm, and the one with rank stripes raises his voice.]
Come out with your hands up! We've got backup on the way, so don't think you can run!

A blaster in each hand, he takes his shot, shooting with the sort of quick efficiency that betrays his being accustomed to fielding much larger swaths of enemies than this. Shaking, a few of the guards crumple to the ground. ]
My blasters are on stun, [ he yells above the noise. ] Choose your fight wisely, boys. Let us go, and it will stay that way.
